Featured Presenters

In addition to our incredible keynote speakers, we also have two fantastic featured presenters who will be joining us on April 6th.


Debangshu Roychoudhury, MA, New York University, PhD student in Psychology, The Graduate Center at the City University of New York
 
Debangshu is a rapper and Artistic Director of the Hip Hop Psychology Performing Arts Movement who has opened up for Immortal Technique, The Grits, Kanye West and performed for Reverend Run and with feminist artist Judy Chicago. His work has been featured on NBC, Fox News, The Tennessean and CNN Newsroom and he has performed nationally and internationally in venues including Madison Square Garden Theatre, Riverside Church, Opryland Hotel and The Whitney Museum. He is currently a doctoral student in Psychology at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. He also holds a Masters degree in Counseling from New York University. Debangshu, with colleague Lauren M. Gardner, has released a book chapter on misdiagnosis as it relates to the hip hop community entitled Taking back our minds: Hip hop psychology’s (HHP) call for a renaissance, action, and liberatory use of psychology in education.



 Lauren M. Gardner, MSW, Fordham University, PhD student in Psychology, The Graduate Center at the City University of New York
 Lauren is the Operations and Organization Specialist for The Hip Hop Psychology Performing Arts Movement. Lauren is a dancer and choreographer who performs nationally and internationally, and has opened for rappers Ludacris and Common. Her choreography and scholarship has been featured on CNN Newsroom, Fox News, NBC, and the Tennessean, and has presented and performed at Gibney Dance Broadway for the New York State Chapter of the American Dance Therapy Association. Lauren has her Masters in Social Work from Fordham University and is currently a PhD student in psychology at The Graduate Center at the City University of New York. Lauren is studying Hip Hop and Human Development, Dance as Discourse, and Women's Studies. She currently is a Dance Specialist at Harlem Children's Zone where she teaches youth aged K-12 Hip Hop, various styles of Jazz, and Contemporary Lyrical dance. Lauren, with colleague Debangshu Roychoudhury, has released a book chapter on misdiagnosis as it relates to the hip hop community entitled Taking back our minds: Hip hop psychology’s (HHP) call for a renaissance, action, and liberatory use of psychology in education.
